Shorn and Shamed

Mom had me shorn last Saturday. I no longer have my beautiful skirt and there's not much left of my coat either, no more than an inch at most.

I don't know why she had to do that. She claims that my coat was not looking so clean. An "off-white" coat and skirt are better than none at all!

Now I don't look much different than George - still better but not much better. Hmp. Mom says I look like a lion cub. I'm not sure I like that comparison either. And no, I won't post a photo. There's only so much humiliation I can stand.

Grrr.

Back from the Cape!

Woohoo! Mom & Pops are finally back from the Cape. They needed a vacation badly and wanted to bring George and I along but could not find a pet-friendly place. So they opted to have a couple of their (and our) dear friends to come over and watch over us. M & M have taken care of us before and they're really awesome, but we really missed Mom & Pops and are just glad that they are back.

Mom & Pops went whale watching, rode a moped around Martha's Vineyard and went beach-hopping. George and I would have had a kick out of doing all that but alas, Mom said none of the places were pet-friendly. I don't think that's fair since we're part of the family and we're left out of the coolest stuff! Never mind, they're back now and I get to sit on Mom and Pop's lap again. That in itself is a vacation for me!

It's Georgie Day!

Today, I will do my best to be nice even when George tries to annoy the heck out of me. He may jump on me, nip at my leg or neck, growl at me, chase me and I will let him. It's his special day so I have decided to cut him some slack.

It was this day last year when this little brother of mine was born to a pregnant Rat Terrier that was rescued from a puppy mill in Alabama. Mom saw his woeful look at a rescue site so he joined our family a few days later, on Mom's birthday. He took a morning flight to Boston and was picked up by Mom and Pops at the airport by noon.

As you can see, he was a real cutie when he first came. Now, I'm not so sure. Mom and Pops still think he is. I just wish he stayed at 1.9 lbs. He was easier to manage then. He’s bigger now but he hasn’t lost his Napoleon complex. He was always a feisty little thing. He never let his size get in the way of standing up to other dogs. With me, that’s fine. But when he gives the two Pit Bulls next door attitude, I think it makes Mom and Pops just a wee bit nervous.

Happy birthday, George! And if you want many, many more birthdays to come, go easy on the Pits.

Mommy Day

Last weekend, the bipeds celebrated Mommy day. Pops and Mom called their own Moms to wish them a happy one. I didn't have to call mine as she was with me almost the whole weekend and she looked quite happy. I made sure she felt special by sitting primly on her lap and watching Youtube Westie videos with her. We had a great time!

Here is a photo of me and Mom. Do you see a resemblance? We both have white coats! Hers changes daily though, but I think she looks her best when she's in white 'cause she looks like me. Pops took the photo so he couldn't join us and George...well, George was being George. He couldn't sit still long enough for a shot as he was chasing some imaginary prey, as always. That's okay, because I got Mom all to myself the way I like it.

No Doggie Dreams

I didn't get much sleep last night. Pops, instead of doing it earlier in the evening, decided that to uninstall the old dishwasher at 11 pm at night to prepare for the arrival of the new one today. Since the dishwasher had been there for ages and whoever installed it added extra screws in places Pops couldn't easily find, he was clunking and banging until late. I grunted and moaned as loudly as I could to drop hints that it was time for all of us to turn in. Even Mom was not very happy. I could tell by that look on her face. It's the same kind I get when I have my "accidents" on our hardwood floors.

Well, Pops finally clued in and called it a night at 1 am so I could get some beauty rest. Very early in the morning, to our chagrin, he was at it again - clunking and banging. It took him a couple of hours and by that time I was wide awake so George and I started our usual game of chase. We also played tug of war over a yummy old chew wonderfully covered with dustballs and hair that I had buried behind the heating vent in the bathroom.

Uh-oh, I hear Mom calling. She says it's time for our nap. I guess I can catch up on my beauty sleep, after all!

New Sod!

Pops, my biped parent, just laid out new sod on the front lawn to replace the grass that George and I "overfertilized" last summer and fall. Apparently, the huge brown sections that started appearing all over the lawn were the cause of my and George's tinkles. Before long, the nicely landscaped lawn that we had was no more. So now, everytime I start to tinkle on the grass, Mom, my other biped parent, lifts me and places me outside the grassy area during the act. It's terribly discombobulating but there's no way I can stop. I just continue tinkling until I'm done. She then pours water on wherever I started to go on the grass so that the nitrogen wouldn't burn it out like before.

George, however, just tinkles outside the turf and not on the grass. He always likes to impress Mom and Pops. He does that to make me look bad. Little showoff! I don't blame him, though. He does need to "work it". All I need to do is look at Mom and Pops in my usual cute way and I'm forgiven anything. Since he's not all that in the cuteness factor, he needs to be more obedient work harder at the charm - much harder.
